Donate Today with Bloodworks Northwest

Summer is Here!
Visiting the mountains, hanging out at the beach, riding across Puget Sound on a ferry, or bicycling through the Skagit Valley. Chances are, with June upon us, many are making summer plans.  Of course, most people don’t plan on needing a blood transfusion, yet hundreds of people in our community will need blood over the summer. Bloodworks Northwest asks that you please include donating blood to your summer “planning” list. With so many other plans being made, donating blood can get left off the list of things to get done. But the need for blood is constant. It takes 1,000 people each day to keep our PNW blood supply at safe and reliable levels. Best of all, it only takes an hour to make a difference before heading out to your next summer activity.

World Sickle Cell Awareness Day
Sickle Cell Disease affects about 100,000 people in the United States, primarily African Americans. In many cases, Sickle Cell Disease can cause severe pain and requires regular blood replacement transfusions to eliminate mutated “sickle-shaped” red blood cells, which are caused by malfunctioning bone marrow, and replace them with healthy ones.

World Blood Donor Day
On World Blood Donor Day, June 14, we’re calling on our community across the Pacific Northwest and around the world to give blood. A safe and reliable blood supply is a critical aspect of care and public health. Donating blood is key in treating people experiencing a range of diseases and accidents, natural disasters, and armed conflict. The need for blood is universal, yet we face extreme blood shortages across our nation and globe. These shortages impact all of us, especially pregnant people and children who need blood most. Becoming a volunteer blood donor is a simple and selfless step that everyone can take to strengthen their communities. In one hour, you can make a difference.
